Ceci is a good brand of Lambrusco to try if you've never had it before; they've been making wine in the area since the 1930s and have it perfected at this point. In Italy, most of the Lambruscos drunk by the locals are dry, but most often exports are a bit sweeter. We like both versions--like milk and dark chocolate, they each have their good qualities, and sometimes I'm in the mood for one or the other.
About WineThe premier wine of the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy is Lambrusco, a lightly fizzy red wine that's either sweet or dry. You may know the region better for its food: we're talking Parmesan cheese, balsamic vinegar, fresh handmade pasta, and polenta. Hungry yet? Bubbly Lambrusco is the perfect foil to these rich regional foods, so if you're planning on whipping up some lasagna or nibbling on a hunk of Parmesan, pop open a bottle of Lambrusco to go with it.
