The Bodega Noemia de Patagonia project started with the discovery of an old Malbec vineyard planted in the 1930s, in the Rio Negro Valley, about 620 miles south of Buenos Aires. Partners in this project, Italian wine producer Countess Noemi Marone Cinzano and Danish winemaker Hans Vinding-Diers found the place and the valley’s microclimate perfect for wine grape growing. They use the term “Land of dreams” to describe their oasis in the middle of the Patagonian desert because for Hans, “to find such old vineyards in this region was a dream” and the atmosphere is unpolluted, pure and pristine. It was then and is still today famous for its apple and pear production and it was in the 1900s that Italian immigrants introduced the first vineyards, which mainly consisted of French varietals.

About Wine95% Malbec, 5% Merlot

Tasting NotesThe Malbec and Merlot grapes used in J.Alberto were from 55 year old vines. Bottled unfiltered, the wine was aged for 8 months in French oak barrels, both new and “wine”, or second use, barrels. J. Alberto, named after Noemi’s brother and father, has a meaty and rich nose with fragrance from the fruit and oak. The palate has some dry, mouth-coating tannin but the floral flavors and beautiful fruit come through powerfully with a gorgeous acid and tannin axis adding superb freshness and a long finish.
