The Sadie Family winery, situated in South Africa’s Malmsbury district, is owned by Eben Sadie, a first generation winemaker who started as a winemaker of the highly acclaimed Spice Route Winery venture. Eben grew up in South Africa making wine for other people, but felt that the wines always lacked something. He traveled to Europe and realized that tradition was what was missing. On returning to South Africa, he started Columella using all his own funds and in his first vintage in 2000, he made just 17 barrels. His goal was to do something that had some of the greatness that he’d seen in some European wines. He was impressed with the ideas of Columella and Palladius, agriculturalists from the Roman period, and using the principles of biodynamic agriculture, he has committed himself to making wine that shows its terroir to the absolute maximum. He recently established Sequillo winery as a joint venture, and he is now one young winemaker who is the focus of a lot of attention in South Africa.

Tasting NotesIt is a deep gold with a tangy nose of honeysuckle and tangerine. Not heavy on the palate with a marked acidity. It is well restrained and focused with an extremely long finish.
